Chengdu

Giant pandas, teahouse afternoons and Sichuan flavours.

Visit the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding in the morning and allow time for its broad grounds. In the city, People’s Park brings teahouses and local gatherings; historic lanes, temples and markets add other stops. Group visits by area because the panda base and major city sights are spread out.

Explore Sichuan food through a market walk, cooking experience or shared meal. Dishes range from fragrant and savoury to intensely spicy; discuss allergies, dietary needs and spice preferences before eating. Sichuan opera and face-changing performances can fill an evening, with a tea stop for a quieter afternoon.

Allow two or three full days for the panda base and city. Add a full day for Leshan or Dujiangyan, or several nights for Jiuzhaigou. Chengdu combines with Chongqing, or with Beijing, Xi’an and Shanghai on a wider route. Check rail, flight and road connections before deciding the order.

The panda base involves substantial walking; parks and historic areas may include steps, uneven paths and standing. Plan breaks and a flexible afternoon for families or older travellers. Mountain and nature extensions need their own travel days; check seasonal conditions near departure.

Planning questions

How many days should I plan for Chengdu?

Two or three full days allow time for pandas and the city. Add a full day for a nearby excursion or several nights for a regional nature trip.

When is the best time to visit the panda base?

Many visitors prefer a morning visit. The grounds are broad, so allow time for walking and check current visitor arrangements.

Can Chengdu be combined with Jiuzhaigou?

Yes, as a longer regional journey. Include separate travel and overnight time, and confirm current connections before booking.
